Solid hardwood is made of wood all the way through. These floors can be sanded and refinished many times to add a fresh look. Recognized for their durability and beauty, they add value to your home.

Hardwood floors are great for rooms on the first and second floors where there may be limited moisture as well as high traffic areas. The hardwood can be purchased prefinished or unfinished. The prefinished hardwood floors have a protective coating and are ready to install. Unfinished hardwoods need to have a stain color ranging from browns to grays and red before installing.

There are many kinds of wood to choose from that give their unique style and beauty. Oak, hickory, maple, and bamboo are among the more popular choices today.

Engineered Hardwood Floors

Engineered hardwood floors consist of a solid wood bottom and top. The middle or core layers are made of plywood. This way, the wood is less able to expand and makes a better match for installing over basement floors, concrete slabs, and radiant heating systems.

These floors like the solid hardwoods also come in a great range of wood species, colors, and styles. The floors can be sanded and refinished but not as many times as real hardwood.
